Adeptia Connect FAQs

What is Adeptia?

Adeptia is a technology software company. Adeptia’s software product is called Adeptia Connect, and it is an application to modernize the onboarding of business data within the ecosystem of customers and partners, using a self-service approach for business people. Learn more about Adeptia, the company.

What benefits does Adeptia technology deliver?

Adeptia helps companies more easily, simply, and effectively manage the exchange of business data with other companies.

  • Delivers Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere onboarding
  • Empowers companies to delight customers with a better onboarding experience and service delivery
  • Makes them easier to do business with, resulting in an increase of market share and improved customer retention
  • Opens new markets due to more agility and flexibility to move more quickly
  • Reduces information technology and operational costs
  • Speeds up time to value and fast forwards revenues
  • Empowers business people to manage partner relationships, with no need to wait for IT data integration experts
  • Creates a collaborative community experience

Why did we develop Adeptia?

Adeptia created its technology to completely transform the traditional approach of how companies exchange data and information with other businesses. Typically, these older ways of “business-to-business integration” require complex software tools to be evaluated by IT departments, purchased, and then deployed and managed. Some of these developer-centric tools are B2B gateways, B2B integration tools, Message Brokers, EDI Translators, Managed File Transfer (MFT) tools, or tools that use external services such as Value-Added Networks (VANs).

The main problems with the traditional approach include the large effort needed to build and manage hundreds of connections with partners, the high cost of expensive IT resources, delays in adding new customers, the lack of flexibility, the greater burden on customers and partners to be able to connect, and dependence on the involvement of IT staff. There has been little innovation in the last 20 years in this area, and the process remains an inefficient and unproductive exercise. Many companies are simply fed up and outsource data integration to external vendors, such as managed services providers or VANS, which is just a way to transfer work from internal to external resources. The cost of doing this inefficiently is still paid by the companies in the form of vendor fees.

Adeptia changes all this with a fresh, new approach.

How does Adeptia work?

Adeptia enables your business users to create and use connections for onboarding customers and partners with a no-code approach. While IT operates in a governance role by creating pre-built templates for business connectivity, non-technical business users use those templates in an operational role.

Adeptia is an enterprise-level integration platform that lets you perform any-to-any integration between your customers and partners. The Citizen Integrator approach of Adeptia empowers your business users to shorten onboarding time from weeks or months to just days, thereby accelerating service delivery and revenue realization while empowering IT to become more productive.

What type of companies purchase Adeptia technology?

Adeptia has hundreds of customers, and its technology is used in mission-critical environments by these clients and their ecosystems, which include thousands of customers and partners.

  • Adeptia clients are in various industries, with concentration in Financial Services, Insurance, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Distribution, and data-driven Service Providers.

How does Adeptia help business users?

Adeptia gives power to your business users and lets them onboard customers and partners without the need for complex coding. Business users can setup and self-manage partner data exchange, reducing partner onboarding time by up to 80 percent and automating up to 90 percent of onboarding for accelerating service delivery.

With Adeptia, business users can use pre-built connection templates that enable repeatable processes and reusable efficiencies. In their operational role, business users are able to drive onboarding without relying on complex coding or IT for day-to-day operations.

How does Adeptia help IT users?

A key innovation in Adeptia is to separate the enterprise data connectivity process into two parts:

  • The external-facing, front-end for business users
  • The internal integration with back-end applications and databases that abstracts the complexity

If Adeptia is the front-end for business users, then the back-end integration is still managed and implemented by IT staff. For this they can continue using their existing tool set or use the Adeptia Suite with its simpler, SOA-based approach for application integration. Here all the complexity of data validation, mapping rules, message routing, error-handling, etc., is implemented and managed by engineers. By isolating the complex part of connectivity in this back-end integration, IT staff are able to provide business users with a simpler “walled-garden” on the front-end.

This helps IT teams focus on higher-value tasks and become more productive. It helps business users have more self-reliance to do the day-to-day work, and thus reduces pressure on IT staff because the business workers are no longer “waiting on IT.”

How can Adeptia help me get started quickly?

  • Scope the exact requirements
  • Design the solution
  • Provide training
  • Install the application
  • Prepare a timeline with phased approach

Adeptia reviews its prices annually and reserves the right to change prices at any time. Annual renewals are subject to then-current prices.

How do I select the Adeptia product edition that is right for me?

During your technology selection process, your Adeptia account executive will discuss your business needs and requirements, then share that information with our engineers and solution architects. Based on the information you provide, Adeptia will be able to recommend the right product edition for you. This recommendation may change as we learn more from you and have further discussions. From our experience, it is likely that a prospect starts with one edition in mind and then actually purchases another as the scope of their solution changes when they learn of a better approach during the sales process.

What is the process to upgrade from one edition to next?

Adeptia is a single application, and the product editions and other options are simply configured in the application. This makes upgrading the application very easy. Once you inform your Adeptia account executive about your decision to upgrade, a short contract addendum will be sent for your sign-off, and your Adeptia application will be upgraded.

What is a partner?

“Partner” is defined as a unique external entity that is being managed in Adeptia’s partner management. This allows the setup of integration transactions, tracking, and monitoring of data flows with each partner.

  • Each named entity of an external company counts as a “partner.”
  • Adeptia does not count number of transactions or data volumes with partners.
  • In case of Enterprise edition with “Partner Access” option, each partner gets a user account for web access to the Adeptia application.
  • In case of connection with a Value-Added Network (VAN) or Data Aggregator who is receiving/sending data from many third-party companies, that would be treated as multiple partners based on the number of endpoints from which the data is being exchanged. Usually in these cases, there is a need to separately track, log and monitor the data flows with the third-party companies (coming via the VAN or Data Aggregator), and so each third-party company will be treated as a unique partner.

What is a user? Are the users named or concurrent?

A user in Adeptia application is a person who accesses the application. Each individual user is a named account created in Adeptia. The following type of user roles are available.

  • Admin user: Manages the application and can create other users
  • Developer user: Has access to the full functionality of Adeptia with focus on the technical features
  • Viewer user: A business user who only has access to the dashboard and logs to allow monitoring and tracking of data flows. Does not have ability to manage or configure.
  • Business user: An operational user who manages partners and can configure and collaborate with developer and partner users. This type of user role is available in Enterprise edition.
  • Partner user:  An external user who belongs to other companies with whom the data exchanges are being managed in Adeptia. This type of user role is available in Enterprise edition.

These services do not cover the actual implementation as those are separately billed services. Adeptia recommends the engagement of its training and implementation services as that leads to faster success.

What SLAs does Adeptia commit to?

Adeptia will use commercially reasonable efforts to make Adeptia Connect Cloud to be available 99.9 percent of the time, excluding:

  1. Planned downtime for maintenance; and
  2. Unscheduled downtime caused by:
    • Circumstances beyond Adeptia’s or its contractors’ reasonable control (including, but not limited to, acts of God, acts of government, flood, fire, earthquake, civil unrest, acts of terror, strike or other labor problem, issues related to 3rd party applications, customer data, or denial of service attacks);
    • Circumstances entitling Adeptia to suspend access to the Adeptia Connect application due to non-payment by client; and
    • Client’s failure to use the Adeptia Connect application in accordance with its obligations or the documentation;
    • Service failure at the Microsoft Azure cloud environment affecting their customers; or
    • Degradation of service due to high packet loss or similar conditions which may be indicative of the Internet as a whole or those resulting as a consequence of malicious activity not reasonably foreseeable by Adeptia.

How do we access internal data in applications and databases with Adeptia Connect Cloud?

To ensure that the Adeptia Connect application in the cloud has access to clients’ internal applications and databases, Adeptia provides the option to configure Virtual Network (VNet). It is basically an extension of the clients’ internal data network and allows use of private IP addresses, define subnets, access control policies, and more. Using VPN technology, VNet is a highly-secure and proven solution provided by Microsoft Azure that allows the Adeptia Connect application in the cloud to effectively be a part of the clients’ data center.

What is a runtime container, and how much can one 2 CPU core container process?

Adeptia Connect application is engineered in a cloud-native, containerized architecture that leverages multiple microservices that run in Docker containers managed by a Kubernetes cluster. Adeptia software is distributed into 14 separate microservices that are all running and can scale independently. Adeptia Connect application architecture ensures a highly scalable, high performance, reliable experience for our customers.

The data processing of files and APIs is the most processing intensive part of the Adeptia application, and this happens in the “Runtime Container.” The size and number of these containers characterizes the overall “concurrent processing capacity” of the application.

Adeptia runs performance tests of various data scenarios and provides these benchmarking results to estimate the processing capacity of differently sizes Adeptia deployments starting with a single two-core runtime container. This information is available in the Adeptia documentation.

We have found that a single 2-core runtime container can easily process hundreds of files and handle dozens of simultaneous API calls. This container, combined with Adeptia’s efficient technical architecture, provides significant processing capacity to handle large volumes of data and transactions.

  • Actual processing capacity of a runtime container will vary by client because it is based on their use case parameters, such as batch or transactional data processing, size of files, peak data volumes, applications accessed, complexity of data validations, and transformation rules.
  • In file-processing use cases, a single runtime container can handle hundreds of files per hour.
  • In real-time, web-services use cases, a single runtime container can handle thousands of API calls per hour.
  • Adeptia provides extensive information for optimizing performance, tuning, and best practices.

How do I know if I need more CPU cores or runtime containers?

Adeptia will work with you to size your environment before you make a purchase decision. If are are expecting a high volume of files and APIs to be handled at any time, more CPU cores (to increase runtime containers) for production environment may be needed. Adeptia monitors the application usage and capacity for our clients and makes recommendations. Clients may also decide to add additional CPU cores to their production environment as needed.

What if I need more nonproduction environments later on?

Clients may easily purchase additional nonproduction environments. Adeptia will charge pro-rated subscription fees for the additional non-production environment(s) for the rest of the year.

What if I need more features later on?

Clients can add more features by either purchasing the add-on features or by upgrading to another edition. Adeptia will charge pro-rated subscription fees for the additional features or edition for the rest of the year.
